Project Hilights

January 2011 – March 2011
  • Managed and helped develop “CaseysMadness.com” a WordPress based content sharing site/game for one of our Social Media consulting accounts.
November 2010 – Febuary 2011
  • Managed the creation of a buddypress based internal community for a major insurance provider. I personally wrote back end PHP do enable a single sign-on process and automatic account creation for user in their preexisting system. My team developed the site externally then worked with the client’s technology team to migrate it to a newly set up LAMP environment inside their network.
November 2008 – April 2010
  • Since we were acquired by United Healthcare my main role has been to head up our migration from a case management system that our employees have used since our initial founding to a system that UHC uses. This has involved working with the developer of our system to extract data and then writing custom SQL jobs to massage the data into the new system. The main hangups of this project were working with an archaic system from a very closed source developer, then dealing with a massive database of over 300 million insurance claim records in a timely manner. I learned a lot about SQL Server optimization via indexes, table partitioning, and stored procedures, and also the pitfalls that a project team can fall in to when they come from two different application mindsets.
April 2003-September 2003
  • Creation of a PHP web app, with a mySQL backend, at the other end of the case management system. This app allowed us to take data exported from our case management system at the end of each month and create various reports for different target audiences through a web portal. The main issues with these projects related to working with a very closed vendor purchased application. I really learned how to take business logic gleaned from conversations with an analyst and turn it into a computer run process.
September 2002 – April 2003
  • Development of an ASP web application, with an MSSQL backend, to take insurance claims data from our various clients and create “cases”. The cases could then be reported against or exported into a special text format for import into our vendor purchased case management system.
November 2002 – December 2002
  • Development of a file transfer web application, using PHP, to allow secure communication with customers using only a modern web browser. Data is encrypted via SSL during transmission and is then re-encrypted, using 3DES, by the application for secure storage. This project was developed as a solution to our problem with getting claims data from our clients that contained PHI. With HIPAA rules to follow we really had to be careful with communication of personal health information between our analysts and our clients. Often not being very technically savvy both groups needed a simple way to securely transfer this data. This web app was as simple as filling out a form on a website and attaching a file.
February 2001 – July 2002
  • Design and development of ASP application to interface with large Oracle database to create an online catalog that allowed end users to look up automotive parts based on their specific vehicle. My responsibilities included writing ASP code, Oracle packages (stored procedures), and then customizing the look and feel of the application to match our customers’ websites.
